Dr. Mohamed Al Zaabi, MD, FRCPath, FRCP

Pathologist

 

Dr. Zaabi leads all laboratory functions.

Dr. Zaabi is the Head of Department of the Haematology Laboratory and Blood Bank at Khoula Hospital.  He is also Chairman of Khoula Hospital Transfusion Committee and the Clinical Lead of the Hospital Thromboprophylaxis Task Force.  He is a Member of the Ministry of Health National Coagulation Guidelines Committee.

 

Dr. Zaabi worked as a Specialist Registrar and Resident at the Oman Medical Speciality Board.  This was followed by more than 2 years as a Clinical and Research Fellow at the Royal Free London, Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospital in London.  Dr. Zaabi is fully registered as a Haematologist by the General Medical Council of the U.K.  He has attended and presented at numerous conferences and seminars across the world.

Dr. Zaabi attained his BSc in Health Sciences and MD in Medicine from Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat.  This was followed by a Training Certificate at the Oman Medical Speciality Board.  He has Clinical Fellowships in Haematology and Thrombosis, Haemostasis & Transfusion medicine from the Royal College of Physicians, U.K.  he is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, U.K.

 

Rajappa Asirvatham, B.Sc. MLT, M.Sc. MLT

Senior Lab Technologist

 

Rajappa leads the Haematology and Haemostasis lab.

Rajappa has 36 years of laboratory experience in India, Saudi Arabia and Oman, including 24 years supervising the haematology lab in Khoula Hospital. He has written numerous scientific articles for medical lab journals.  Rajappa has specialist knowledge of haemoglobinopathies, thalassemias and haemoglobin variants.  He is also an expert in the handling of High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Gel and Capillary Electrophoresis systems.

Shehab Taha Osman, B.Sc. MLT (Parasitology), M.Sc. MLT (Microbiology)

Senior Lab Technologist

 

Shehab leads the Microbiology lab.

Shehab has 18 years of laboratory experience in Sudan.  He worked 5 years at the Ministry of Health.  He specialised for 3 years in an Obstetrics & Gynaecology clinic.  He also spent 9 years supervising a private clinic laboratory, responsible for all testing in microbiology & parasitology, haematology, biochemistry and serology. Shehab has thorough experience in systematic bacteriology.

Jayasekar George Silas, DMLT

Senior Lab Technologist

 

Jayasekar leads the Biochemistry and Immunochemistry lab.

Jayasekar has 25 years of laboratory experience in India and Oman.  10 of these years were as Heads of laboratories, leading and managing all functions.  He has broad experience of working with a wide range of analysers, including the latest fully automated versions in haematology, immunochemistry, biochemistry and microbiology.  He also has experience of working in a blood bank.  Jayasekar has participated in a Virology Quality Control Programme run by the Ministry of Health, Oman.  He is also trained at the National Training Institute, Oman in Health & Safety.
